Wow. I just checked out the other bios on this page and it’s pretty clear to me that I’m the designated old guy around here. I’m a fourth-generation Southern Californian, a newspaper and magazine writer for more than four decades, and I’ve got dental fillings that are older than any of these other fine web contributors. But I digress. Actually, I digress a lot, but that’s because I’m old. Did I mention that? Southern California — coastal Orange County in particular — has been my playground for 62 years. My favorite activities over my lifetime here have included surfing, blue-water fishing, sailing, snorkeling and, most recently, golf. When I was a cub reporter for a small daily newspaper in Costa Mesa, my editor said to me, “Son, we live on the best of all possible coasts.” And he was right. If you look it up, the Weather Channel will tell you that the average daytime temperature in Southern California is “perfect.” We’ve got more beaches, more harbors, more restaurants, more amusement parks and more outdoor activities than most any other part of the planet. Check back often and I’ll try and fill you in on what’s happening in “this best of all possible” vacation destinations.
