Cirque du Soleil: Corteo
January 11 – February 17.  Del Mar Fairgrounds.  2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd., Del Mar.  After a four year absence, Cirque du Soleil finally returns to SoCal.  Corteo, “cortege” in Italian, is a joyous procession, a festive parade imagined by a clown.  The show brings together the passion of the actor with the grace and power of the acrobat, and plunges the audience into a theatrical world of fun, comedy and spontaneity situated in a mysterious space between heaven and earth.  800-678-5440.  www.cirquedusoleil.com.
Wheelchair Accessible.

San Diego Boat Show
January 3 – 6.  San Diego Convention Center and Marriott Marina.  The largest in-water and convention center boat show on the west coast returns to San Diego.  With over 300 boats and yachts, free boating and sailing lessons, an interactive kid’s area, and live music, this is the one show boating enthusiast shouldn’t miss.  Also returning this year is that lovable water skiing squirrel, Twiggy, who has been seen on the Tonight Show, David Letterman, CNN and Good Morning America.  858-274-9924.  www.sandiegoboatshow.com.

Tidepool Adventure
January 8 and 20.  Birch Aquarium at Scripps.  2300 Expedition Way, La Jolla.  Explore the beauty and mystery of life along the San Diego coast during engaging tidepooling excursions this season.  Winter is an excellent time to explore local tide pools because low tides reveal wider beaches and pools teeming with exotic marine life, such as hermit crabs, sea hares and sea anemones.  Aquarium naturalists will guide you and your family through these fragile environments and identify inhabitants.  858-534-FISH.  www.aquarium.ucsd.edu.
